Prague's Largest St. Patrick's Day Parade!

On March 16, 2025, in glorious sunshine, Prague saw its largest-ever St. Patrick's Day Parade, led by piper Chip Doehring, St. Patrick himself, the flag-bearer and officials representing the Irish Government and the Embassy of Ireland - Minister Robert Troy [Minister of State] and His Excellency Mr. Alan Gibbons [the Ambassador of Ireland to the Czech Republic].

The video from CIBCA's resident videographer, Paul Dubsky captures the mood. In fact this video was so captivating that it was taken up for transmission by Ireland's national broadcaster, RTÉ, as well as by one of Ireland's leading national newspapers, the Irish Independent. Talking of press coverage, local channel CNN Prima News decided to cover the parade, and broadcast multiple reports on March 16 and March 17. Details of all of this media hype are available here.

The credit for organising the Parade goes deservedly to CIBCA Members Darragh Price and Tereza Macoszek Jindrová. In fact it was Darragh that first inspired the CIBCA Committee to organise the 2024 Parade, to showcase the wealth of Irish-interest talent in the Czech Republic. This year, he and Tereza corralled more than 30 diverse groups including musicians, bands, dancers, students, artists, cultural groups, Irish Wolfhound owners etc., etc. The entire contingent of Parade participants was estimated at up to 1000, with many more watching along the way. When asked about these figures, Darragh said "4000 next year, mark my words!". Well done to him and the team of volunteers who helped to efficiently plan, prepare and manage the Parade on the day. And special thanks to Parade sponsors Guinness, who provided participants with themed merchandise and also samples of Guinness Zero to hand out along the way!

The Parade was the highlight of the St. Patrick's Weekend Festival organised by CIBCA, which began with a Six Nations Rugby Watch party [for the Italy-Ireland game], preceded by magnificent Irish dance from Sona Sól Veselá kopýtka.
