The CIBCA Czech Open on January 11 2025 was the largest edition yet, with players from 12 countries including the USA and Australia traveling to Brno to compete for the prestigious titles.

In the Men’s Senior Final, Colm Grace of Thomas McCurtains, London, defeated local favorite Fionn Ó Súilleabháin in a thrilling contest. Grace’s victory ended Ó Súilleabháin’s hopes of completing a historic three-in-a-row title streak at the Czech Open.

The Women’s Final delivered an exciting showdown between Vienna Gaels clubmates Elisa Cola and Anneliese O'Malley, with Cola securing victory to claim the first of multiple titles for Vienna Gaels on the day.

Next up was the Intermediate Final, where Darren Gleeson from Vienna Gaels showcased excellent court control to overcome Mícheál O'Reilly from the Slovak Shamrocks in a competitive encounter.

The Junior Final saw a reversal of fortunes for the Slovak Shamrocks. Shane Crean stepped up to deliver a memorable win against Ray Laverty from Vienna Gaels in a nail-biting match that kept the crowd on edge.

In the Junior B Final, Rui Pedro Silva from Vienna Gaels claimed a third title for the club, defeating Václav Milisterfer from Píobairí Strakonice to round off an impressive showing from Vienna.

The organizers would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, the Czech Irish Business & Cultural Association (CIBCA), Eadaoin O'Connor from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Prague, Centrum Viktoria for hosting the event, and all the volunteers and players who helped make the day such a success.

With the largest-ever field of competitors and incredible matches across all grades, this year's Czech Open showcased the best of European 1-Wall Handball and the future of the sport looks brighter than ever!

The photos capture the spirit of the event.
